The Golden Globes Awards are one of the few key Hollywood ceremonies that are considered a good hint of possible Oscar winners and favors lighter films that often get overlooked in awards season. And this season’s 64th Annual Golden Globes Awards picked critically acclaimed multi-lingual drama ‘Babel’ for the best picture award, beating Emilio Estevez’s “Bobby” and Martin Scorsese’s “The Departed”. However, Scorsese didn’t leave empty handed from Beverly Hilton as he was honored as the best director for his hard-hitting film ‘The Departed.’

‘Dreamgirls’ walked away with three major honors, winning best supporting actor and actress awards for Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson respectively. ‘Dreamgirls’ also won best picture in the musical or comedy category and now seems certain to earn an Oscar nod.
“Babel’s” Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu received the best picture award from California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger at Beverly Hilton. Inarritu remarked about the film,
It seems that no matter how many languages you make a film in, I think the power of cinema is universal and at the end emotion doesn’t need translation and that’s the beauty of it.

British veteran Helen Mirren was honored as the best dramatic film actress and scored a notable double, winning two Golden Globes for her performances of Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Elizabeth II respectively.
Meryl Streep was named the best actress in a comedy or musical for her comically icy turn in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’. Streep said, Thank you so much. I’m really thrilled, I think I’ve worked with everybody in the room!’
Forest Whitaker won best actor for his leading role in ‘The Last King Of Scotland’. As expected, Whitaker won the award beating out Peter O’Toole and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Although, a constant controversy and court case, Sacha Baron Cohen was the winner of the best comedy actor award for his spoof documentary film, ‘Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.’
Cohen said,
This movie was a life-changing experience I saw some dark sides of America. I refer to the anus and testicles of my co-star Ken Davitian.
Ken, when I was in that scene and I stared down and saw your two, wrinkled golden globes on my chin, I thought to myself, I better win a bloody award for this.
Clint Eastwood’s war epic ‘Letters from Iwo Jima’ scooped up the best foreign-language film prize.
And in the small screen category the doctors of “Grey’s Anatomy’ grabbed the best drama prize beating out ‘Lost’ and ‘24′.
