‘American Idol’ contestant, known for his toothy grin, pretty face and wacky ever-changing hairdos, was finally booted from the show on Wednesday night. Yes, I m talking about Sanjay Malakar, this time he couldn’t make into the list.
Malakar, the under-talented, though, cool singer who horrified and fascinated millions in his improbable ‘American Idol’ run, at last, had to say goodbye to the singing competition. When the result was announced on Wednesday night, he broke into tears and hugged Lakisha Jones, the next lowest vote-getter.
I’m fine, he told Ryan Seacrest. It was an amazing experience.
I can promise you: We won’t soon forget you, Seacrest replied.
Malakar then performed one last song ‘Something To Talk About.’ I’m sure his departure must be a big relief to the judges. He was considered to be the weakest, most awkward ‘Idol’ finalists ever and was routinely savaged by Simon Cowell.
Yet, he stole the hearts of millions of people. Even satellite radio DJ Howard Stern urged his listeners to vote for Malakar in order to ruin the top-rated show.
Malakar also had some high-profile fans. Former guest performers Tony Bennett said he was ‘terrific,’ while Gwen Stefani marveled at his inner confidence.
