
Rock Band U2 and its frontman, Bono were honored by Amnesty International and the Chilean government for their contribution towards human rights work.
The band and its manager received the ‘Annual Ambassadors of Conscience Award’ while Bono was honored with ‘The Pablo Neruda Artistic and Cultural Merit Medal’.
‘They have inspired and empowered millions with their music and by speaking out on behalf of the poor, the powerless and the oppressed,’ Amnesty secretary general Irene Khan said in a statement.Chilean president Michelle Bachelet, presented the award at Santiago’s National Stadium on Sunday. Earlier last week, Bono was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize too.
