One of EMI’s most successful bands, the Gorillaz will be getting a fifth member soon. But this virtual band is recruiting in a very different way. Children between the ages of nine and 16 will be competing with their own creations as part of the Guardian Hay festival’s families and young people’s programme which if selected will get to work in a workshop at Hay on June 4 with Gorillaz producer Andrew Ruhemann and a team of the band’s animators.
The current members created by Damon Albarn and illustrator Jamie Hewlett currently consist of Murdoc Nicolls, 2D, Noodle, Russel Hobbs.
