Divorce is hardly an occasion of celebration. Only those who have to go through the trauma know the devastating impact it can have. And the former Beatle, Sir Paul McCartney, is unfortunately one of them. He filed for divorce from Heather Mills on July 30, 2006 citing unreasonable behavior, but if he had thought that money would smother the matter in a few days, he would have been hugely mistaken.
More than a year has passed since the first reports of separation of the couple were announced but the issue has yet to be settled. Both Sir Paul and the former model and anti-landmine campaigner Mills have tried to keep the matter under the blanket, but, with the high-profile image of both of them, it’s been hard to keep the media off the scene.
Sir Paul McCartney has now come out and described his state of mind at the moment similar to that of going through hell. Sir Paul still has the custody of the sole child born out of the four-year old marriage, Beatrice, and has underlined the presence of his daughter as a source of hope for him.
The divorce case seems to have upset the still worshipped British singer so much that Sir Paul had to quote wartime general Winston Churchill,
If you’re going through Hell, keep going.
The quotations have startling relevance and significance to the controversial divorce matter. The matter could have been over inside six weeks but the intrusion of the media exasperated the entire scenario.
Since, divorce proceedings were announced last year, Heather Mills has come more and more under attack from the media, who appear to agree on the view that she married Sir Paul McCartney only for money and that no she is dragging on the lawsuits only to extract more money from the 65-year old singer.
The most widely known and talked about divorce cases in Britain would drag for some more time at least. An early and easy out of court settlement is not unlikely but in all probability, with neither party eager to give in, the gossip pages of the newspapers would have lots to talk about on this issue for long.
