Elton John’s recent comments that organized religion justifies anti-gay discrimination sparked mixed responses from the gay community. John, who is 59, is no stranger to strong language.
Gay rock icon Sir Elton John is no stranger to Australia or controversy and Prime Minister John Howard has copped a nasty blast from the Rocket Man on his latest tour Down Under.
Sir Elton has objected to Australia’s lack of legislation protecting gay couples. Sir Elton is never shy about offering strong views on a range of subjects and people. His more recent targets have included Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher and Madonna, whom he accused of lip-syncing during live performances.
However, talking about Elton and the band that kicked off their 2006 tour of Australia and New Zealand with sold-out concerts in Brisbane and Sydney, the performance is simply superlative. Australia seems to be the entertainment capital of the world these days. The tour continues throughout December.
