The Nandigram carnage is about to appear on the silver screen. Ujjwal Chatterjee, who made ‘Escape From Taliban’, and is known for making controversial films, is reportedly directing the film in Bengali. Mithun Chakraborty, Gracy Singh and Prasenjit are known to be the cast so far.
As Chatterjee confirmed, the film will have Mithun playing the role of a police inspector, Gracy Singh as a CBI officer, and Prasenjit playing a union leader.

Chatterjee said he wanted to shoot at the original location but had to drop the plan due to security reasons. The film is now to be shot in Mumbai, which also means it will be the first time a Bengali film will be shot in Mumbai. Chatterjee said he is going to have high security during the shoot. The film will probably be dubbed in Hindi as well, as Chatterjee said his plans were. Shooting will reportedly start in August.
According to Chatterjee, the film will contain a detailed documentation of the incident in Nandigram and will also be based on first-hand research.
It’s true, I am making this film on the Nandigram massacre where 140 innocent people were killed. We’re also going to show the story of a girl who was raped, murdered and burnt during the massacre. My writers are Sudeep Mukherjee and Samarish Mazumdar. They visited the spot and met the victims’ families and did their research.
- he said.
The ruling party enforcement troops and cadres had allegedly slaughtered unarmed villagers in Nandigram, West Bengal. The nation had been shocked and mesmerized by the brutality of the incident. The Nandigram slaughter was one of the major outrages, perhaps the most crucial one, of the communist party rule in Bengal. It happened very close to the intellectual capital of the country.
The incident had sent through vibes of protest all over Kolkata, as well as in the other parts of the country. The intellectuals, including poets, writers, activists and filmmakers, were the first to protest. The viciousness of the incident and the strong disgrace of human dignity involved in it had petrified the creative and sensitive crowd.
The film, no doubt, will be expected as a note of protest on Nandigram as well. The intellectual crowd of Kolkata has been craving for an organized remonstration since Nandigram happened.
A major negative reaction regarding this film can also be anticipated from our revered Chief Minister. In fact, the release of this film in Kolkata seems to be a difficult game. Nevertheless, the fact that someone has taken the initiative to make such a film is indeed admirable.
