
Sunday’s 2006 ALMA Awards was a big night for Marc Anthony. The Hispanic singer was given special tribute along with actor Andy Garcia. Anthony received the Celia Cruz Award for Excellence in Music and his Grammy-nominated hit ‘You Sang To Me’ was crooned by R&B artist, Brian McK in both English and Spanish.
Hosted by ‘Desperate Housewives’ star Eva Longoria, Colombian songstress Shakira and reggaeton artist Daddy Yankee were also named outstanding musical performers with Shakira also wining the Best Spanish Album award.
The National Council of La Raza, the country’s largest Hispanic advocacy organization, created the ALMA Awards in 1995 to honor Hispanic performers and promote positive images of Hispanics in entertainment.
