
Canadian singer and songwriter Denny Doherty, who created most melodic music of the 60’s and known for hits like ‘Mamas and the Papas’ died Friday in his home outside Toronto at the age of 66, following a short illness.
It was Doherty who carried on the legacy of the Mamas & the Papas after the deaths of Cass Elliot and John Phillips and was the conduit between the band’s principal singing and songwriting forces.
The group became known worldwide with hits such as ‘California Dreamin’,’ and ‘Monday, Monday.’

Monday, Monday hit number won the band a Grammy for best contemporary group performance. Among their other songs were I Saw Her Again Last Night, Go Where You Wanna Go, Dancing Bear, and versions of I Call Your Name and Dedicated To The One I Love.
In 1998, the Mamas And Rhe Papas were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
His death makes Michelle Phillips the sole living member of the legendary group.
The Mamas and The Papas songs had a ton of internal strife and their voice will live on forever.
