Pop queen Madonna and Sir Elton John will be confronting each other in two categories at this year’s (2007) Ivor Novello awards that honor British songwriters, composers and music publishers.

Madonna’s ‘Sorry’ and Elton John’s ‘I Don’t Feel like Dancing,’ performed by the Scissor Sisters- both are up for international hit of the year and most performed work. Both the songs have been nominated in the same categories.

Robbie Williams also made into the list with his song ‘Rudebox.’ And the Sheffield-based Arctic Monkeys, who released their second album on Monday, have been nominated for best song, musically and lyrically. Arctic Monkeys have already picked up the Mercury Prize for best British album in September and best British group and album prizes at the Brits in February.

Whereas, Amy Winehouse, Hot Chip and the Bodyrox are competing in the best contemporary song category.
The winners of the 52nd Ivor Novello awards will be announced at a ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House on 24 May (07).
Last year KT Tunstall took the best singer and songwriter award for her 2005 hit ‘Suddenly I See.’ And James Blunt’s ‘You’re Beautiful’ picked up two awards for most performed and international hit of the year.
