Johnny Van Zant

Lynyrd Skynyrd frontman, Johnny Van Zant, in spite of having severe pain managed to thrill fans at this week’s shows. However, the singer, who went for a medical check-up on Thursday morning, had to undergo an emergency appendix removal surgery. The doctor informed the singer that his appendix was severely inflamed.

Van Zant will need at least a week to recover. He will have to cancel three shows and would have to forego Tuesday’s Academy of Country Music awards, where he and his brother, Donnie, are nominated for duo of the year for their work performing as ‘Van Zant.’

Van Zant, 46, is now out of the Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, Calif., and hopefully, would get better soon.
