The 2nd Annual Hip-Hop Awards, BET (Black Entertainment Television) were held on October 13, 2007 in Atlanta.
Sadly T.I, whose real name is Clifford Harris could not make up to the award ceremony to accept his two awards as he was taken into custody just four hours before the Awards for possession of firearms.
But the show had to go on! Though T.I’s absence was greatly felt during the performance of ‘Hurt’ which he was scheduled to perform with Busta Rhymes and Alfamega. However we had Nelly, Lil Wayne, Kanye West and Common who mesmerized everyone with their performances.
Grammy award winner T.I. and Common were awarded ‘Album of the Year’ for their albums ‘Finding Forever’ and ‘T.I. vs. T.I.P.’ respectively. Common did not forget to send his support for T.I. while accepting the award and said:
I salute my guy T.I., who also won, wherever he is.
‘Can I Borrow A Dollar’ singer Common also made for another award as he won Lyricist of the Year.
The award for Best Hip-Hop Video went to Kanye West. Honoring and thanking OutKast’s Big Boi he said:
I didn’t deserve this award above them. They do instead of me.
West also brought home ‘Best Live Act’ award. Later Big Boi returned West’s favor as he said:
You worked too hard for this. No, you deserve it.
The awards will air on BET on Wednesday, October 17. The other winners at 2007 BET Hip-Hop Awards are as follow:
