The songwriters have, at some time or the other, been engaged the world of ghosts and scary elements of life & imagination. Many of the records that provoke a shiver among us are either based on real life acts or any paranormal thoughts.
I Put a Spell on You, the signature of rock’n'roll eccentric Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, has been misinterpreted to be a voodoo ballad by many. Likewise The Cramps pushed up their career with fusing primitive rockabilly, punk spirit and monster-movie schlock- Human Fly. There’s a Ghost in My House by R Dean Taylor about a man tormented by the memory of his former girlfriend.
Others that I would like to queue would be Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon, Ghosts by Japan, Voodoo Ray by A Guy Called Gerald, Spooky by Dusty Springfield, Your Ghost by Kristin Hersh, Ghost Town by The Specials and not to forget I Walk on Guilded Splinters by Dr John which most people visualize a slaughter, but it was written after witnessing urban decay in Glasgow, and then watched it soundtrack the riots that shook Britain in 1981.
Thanks to Dorian Lynskey for acting as a Source.
