Its a topsy-turvy world and the latest proof to come in limelight is the incident that took place in February 2005, on the sets of ‘American Idol’, where a finalist tried to masturbate in front of a male employee inside a bathroom.
Magdaleno Olmos, assistant accountant for Fremantle Media, the company that produces American Idol, has alleged that Mario Vazquez, a finalist, sexually harassed him and tried to masturbate in front of him.
As per Olmos, the accused followed him to the bathroom on the sets and started masturbating outside the closed bathroom door and when he tried to leave the area, he was pushed inside and was subjected to sexual harassment as Vazquez tried to pull his pants down and offered to have oral sex with him.
Inspite of reporting the matter to a superior, Olmos did not get any help. On the contrary he was terminated without any valid reason, just a few months after the incident.
Apart from the allegation on Vazquez, FOX entertainment and Freemantle Media are also named as defendants in his lawsuits by Olmos, for his wrongful termination.
Representatives of FOX refused to comment on the issue and no communication could be established with either Vazquez’s attorney or the representatives of American Idol.
The truth of the story is still under blankets but it definitely gave Mario Vazquez a level of fame at par with a trophy from American Idol.
