Black Eyed Peas’ album Behind The front is a treat. Lyrically the MC’s of the universally acclaimed hip-hop group(although they handle all sorts of musical territory), Taboo, Will and A8 cannot be considered ‘poetic’ but the songs in this album-’Joints and Jam’ , ‘Karma’ and ‘Positivity’ show case their immense creativity and originality. ‘Karma’with its latino soul, based on the concept of tit for tat, is my favourite song in this album by far. ‘The way you make me feel’ and ‘Positivity’ are the other two tracks which got me into the flavour and yes I admit, I have become a Black Eyed Peas devotee after listening to this album.
Let me talk about some of the lyrics.
‘I ain’t talking about the white man, the black man or a Jew man
‘Cause the devil can exist in every human
Look how Biggie went out, and Tupac went out
And Martin, and Malcolm, and Kennedy, and ?Squeek?
And Adam, and Rene, and so on, and so on...’
Hmm.. This is what gets my goat. Even with the funky music and kick ass verbal abuses they still manage to invoke some sort of unfathomable meaning in their lyrics( in this case - world peace). Well, maybe I am going overboard with this since I am hooked on to Black Eyed Peas but for me this album is more than a good buy.
This review may not be enough to convince you to go for this album but remember reviews are like miniskirts, they reveal more than what they hide.
