All of Turkey undergoes yet another grief with the news that Beyonce Knowles, the Destiny Child star cancelled her gig in Istanbul thanks to the recent rebel attacks in the country which has resulted into the death of almost 12 innocent lives. Turkey’s Sukru Saracoglu Arena was on its way to witness the sensational singer performing as a part of her Mideast tour. But due to unfortunate circumstances that exist in the country which left Beyonce with no other choice. Turkey was supposed to be her last destination in the Middle East tour before she head started with her Asia leg.
Fenerbahce, the soccer club representing the concert in line with their 100th anniversary, felt that this would be not an appropriate time to have a concert especially when a large section of the country is mourning the deaths of 12 soldiers of the nation who were killed in an attack by the Kurdish rebels. In grief and disbelief about the current state of affairs in the country vice-president Ali-Koc said,
We decided today that these festivities could not be held in the present atmosphere. We share our nation’s grief. We are canceling our 100th anniversary concert
As for those who had invested in the tickets for the concert, news has it that the amount will be reimbursed to all those who have purchased the tickets. But for 90% of music lovers in Istanbul, this is horrific news. Back to back tragedy seems to have struck the nation first with its rebel attacks and now with Beyonce’s gig getting cancelled.
Fans across Istanbul of this exceptional superstar will be highly disappointed because not many pop stars of the West have their performances in the Middle East. This was one of a lifetime opportunity but at times peace in a nation is more important than anything else. Though the decision was made with the best interest of one and all, yet a lot of music admirers will be seen mourning more than the others.
