Fans of Indian rock music will now be treated to unreleased songs and hits by their favorite bands from across the country on the Internet.
Split magazine, a webzine developed by Arun Kale, a 21-year-old from Andheri, Mumbai, dedicated exclusively to the Indian rock music scene publishes not only the hottest news on Rock music but also plays a live rock music radio. The radio station plays independent artistes from the Indian subcontinent and famous and not-so-famous rock bands including Pentagram (including tracks from their debut album), Skinny Alley, Medicis, Scribe, Skincold, Thermal and a Quarter and even yesteryear bands like Kinky Ski Munky and Colourblind.
Kale, an interface designer and web developer for a US-based company was quoted saying,
Most mainstream radio stations restrict their play lists to Indian film music and other Indi-pop. If they do play any English music at all, it’s probably from some top 10 international hits chart or Bryan Adams. I thought an Internet radio station would be a good initiative to promote music by rock bands and other independent musicians from in and around India.
Split Radio’s jukebox has the special feature by which one can fast forward or skip a track which one doesn’t like. Just with the help of a broadband internet connection one can listen to a variety on genres including heavy metal, alternative rock, blues, jazz and electronica.
This internet radio station will definitely be of great help to upcoming and budding Indian artists, who will now be heard by a world wide audience.
